What is it about?
"Data analyst" has become a title everyone uses and few people define. The consequence is visible every day: people sign up for a Python course because they read somewhere that it was essential, spend three months on it, and still cannot answer the first question an employer asks — "what do these numbers tell us?"
This session puts things back in order. We start from what an analyst actually produces in a company, an NGO or a public administration, and work back to the skills that make it possible. You will see which ones take weeks, which take months, and which are useless until the first ones are in place.
Everything is drawn from our own assignments: field surveys, project monitoring, management dashboards. Nothing theoretical.
The session is free and open to everyone. It assumes no prior knowledge, in statistics or in computing.
What we will cover
- What an analyst actually delivers: three outputs, three settings
- Skills in order of real usefulness, and the myth that you must learn to code first
- Excel, SQL, Power BI, Python, R: which to learn first, and why
- Reading a results table without being misled: three common traps
- Building your first project, the one you show at an interview
- Your questions
Who it is for
- Students and recent graduates from any field: economics, statistics, sociology, agronomy, management, public health
- NGO and project staff already handling data without having been trained for it
- Career changers, and anyone curious about the profession
- No prerequisites: no statistics, no programming
